The wait is over for thousands of Civil Services aspirants. The Union Public Service Commission has declared the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026 result, and 2,526 candidates have qualified for the Personality Test, which is the final stage of the selection process. The result was released on 5 November 2026 as a PDF of roll numbers on the official UPSC website.

If you wrote Mains in August, the first thing to do is simply check your roll number. The rest of this page covers what the result means, the application update you need to finish, what to keep ready for the interview and how the final merit list is made.

UPSC CSE Mains Result 2026: Key Details

  • Mains exam dates: 21 to 30 August 2026

  • Result declared: 5 November 2026

  • Candidates qualified for the Personality Test: 2,526

  • Where to see the result: upsc.gov.in (a PDF listing roll numbers)

  • Interview venue: Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi

  • Interview dates: not announced yet; the schedule will be put up on the UPSC website

  • Summons: only e-Summon letters will be issued; there will be no physical letters

How to Check the Result

  • Go to upsc.gov.in and open the "What's New" or Examination Results section.

  • Click the link for the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026 written result.

  • Open the PDF and search for your roll number with Ctrl+F.

  • If your number is listed, you have qualified for the interview. Save the PDF for your records.

The list shows roll numbers only. It does not show marks, and UPSC releases the marks and cut offs only after the whole process is over.

Do This First: The Application Update

Qualified candidates must log in to the UPSC online portal and update their application details, and then submit the form finally. Reports say the window runs roughly from 11 to 25 November 2026, closing at 6 PM, but please confirm the exact dates on the official notice. If you listed any document as pending earlier, upload it in this window. Missing it can lead to your candidature being cancelled or your e-Summon letter being held back.

Documents to Keep Ready

  • Proof of date of birth and educational qualification

  • Community, EWS or PwBD certificates, if you claimed them

  • Proof that you passed the Preliminary exam if it was pending

  • Any other certificate you claimed in the form

  • Original copies of everything above for verification at the interview stage

You will also have to complete the online attestation form with the Department of Personnel and Training, so do not leave this for the last day.

How the Final Merit List Works

The final ranking is based on your Mains written marks plus your Personality Test marks. The written part carries 1,750 marks and the Personality Test carries 275, which makes 2,025 in all. Your Prelims marks do not count towards the final rank.

How to Prepare for the Interview

The interview is not a general knowledge quiz. The board is mostly interested in how you think, how you handle your own background and how clearly you answer. A few things that help:

  • Read your own Detailed Application Form line by line. Anything written there can become a question.

  • Know your optional subject, your hobbies and your home state or city well.

  • Keep up with current affairs, especially topics linked to your education and work experience.

  • Practise mock interviews and ask people to interrupt and challenge you.

  • Be honest. If you do not know something, say so calmly instead of guessing.

If Your Name Is Not on the List

It is hard news, but one result is not the end of the road. UPSC does not do re-evaluation of Mains answer books, so the practical step is to wait for the marks to be released after the final result, read them carefully and plan the next attempt around the weak papers. The Civil Services notification usually comes out early in the year, so you have time to prepare.
