NMC PG Seat Matrix 2026-27: Check 63,177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM and MCh Seats

New Delhi: With the addition of postgraduate medical seats, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has published a seat matrix containing a total of 63,177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM and MCh medical seats for the academic session 2026–27.
Further, the NMC has clarified that the released Seat Matrix does not include seats related to applications submitted for an increase in the intake capacity of existing PG courses or for the introduction of new PG courses for the Academic Year 2026–27.
While releasing the postgraduate seat details, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the NMC, in a notice issued on September 29, stated that it has made available in the public domain the details of Medical Colleges/Institutions, along with the postgraduate (PG) courses and annual intake capacity approved for participation in counselling for the Academic Year 2026–27. The published Seat Matrix includes the PG courses and seats approved by MARB for the academic session 2026–27, as of the date of issuance of the notice.
It was also mentioned that the Seat Matrix does not cover seats related to applications submitted for an increase in the intake of existing PG courses or the commencement of new PG courses for the Academic Year 2026–27. Any additional PG seats or courses approved at a later stage will be included in a subsequently revised Seat Matrix, which will be published on the official website of the National Medical Commission. The Seat Matrix may also be revised whenever required based on decisions of MARB, the competent Appellate Committee, or any other authorized authority. Any revised Seat Matrix, wherever applicable, will be uploaded on the NMC’s official website and considered by the counselling committees of the Central Government and respective State Governments/Union Territories during counselling and admissions.
Additionally, the NMC has advised all concerned stakeholders, including medical colleges, institutions and counselling committees, to carefully verify the published Seat Matrix. Any error, discrepancy, omission or inconsistency should be reported promptly to the President or Director of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) through the designated email addresses. The NMC further stated that, wherever possible, such matters should be brought to the notice of MARB before the counselling process begins.
"All Medical Colleges/Institutions shall strictly ensure that admissions to PG courses are made only against the number of seats approved by MARB for the Academic Year 2026–27 and reflected in the latest notified Seat Matrix. Under no circumstances shall any Medical College/Institution admit students in excess of its approved PG intake capacity. Any admission made beyond the approved intake capacity shall constitute a violation of the provisions of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, and the regulations framed thereunder, and shall attract appropriate regulatory and penal action against the defaulting Medical College/Institution in accordance with the applicable provisions of law. In case any Counselling Committee notices any discrepancy or deviation in the latest notified Seat Matrix, the matter shall immediately be referred to MARB for clarification. The concerned Medical Colleges/Institutions and Counselling Committees shall ensure strict compliance with the approved Seat Matrix and all applicable directions, regulations, and conditions stipulated by the National Medical Commission/MARB. Any deviation noticed at any stage shall be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, and the regulations framed thereunder," the notice added.
