JEE Advanced 2027

JEE Advanced 2026, conducted by IIT Roorkee on May 17, 2026, is India’s most competitive engineering entrance exam and the gateway to undergraduate programmes at 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and IISc Bengaluru. Out of 1,79,694 candidates who appeared, 56,880 qualified — and JoSAA 2026 seat allotment has now concluded with Round 5 results declared on July 16, 2026. If you were allotted a seat in JoSAA Round 5, the partial admission fee window is open right now between July 22 and 24, 2026.

• JoSAA Admission Fee Deadline: Candidates allotted a seat in JoSAA 2026 Round 5 must pay the partial admission fee between July 22–24, 2026 at josaa.nic.in. Missing this deadline means permanently forfeiting the allotted seat.

• CSAB Special Rounds 2026: Candidates not allotted a seat in any JoSAA round can participate in CSAB Special Rounds for remaining NIT, IIIT, and GFTI seats, expected in August 2026. Last year, CSAB 2025 Special Round 1 results were announced in late July 2025.

• JEE Advanced 2027 Notification: IIT Delhi is expected to release the JEE Advanced 2027 notification around December 2026, with the exam likely in May 2027. What is JEE Advanced 2026?

JEE Advanced (Joint Entrance Examination Advanced) is the second and final stage of the IIT admission process, held after JEE Main. It is the only route to Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s, and Dual Degree programmes at the 23 IITs across India and IISc Bengaluru — the country’s most prestigious engineering and science institutions.

In 2026, IIT Roorkee conducted JEE Advanced. The organizing responsibility rotates among seven IITs — IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee, and IIT Guwahati — with each taking a turn in sequence.

JEE Advanced 2026 drew 1,87,389 registered candidates, all of whom had already qualified JEE Main 2026 and ranked within the top 2,50,000. Of the 1,79,694 who appeared for the exam on May 17, 2026, a total of 56,880 qualified — a qualification rate of approximately 31.6%. These qualified candidates were then eligible for JoSAA 2026 seat allotment across IITs and IISc, while their JEE Main ranks determined eligibility for NIT, IIIT, and GFTI seats.

The exam tests Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics through two mandatory papers, each of three hours duration, in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. Both papers are held on the same day.

JEE Advanced 2026: Eligibility Criteria

Before registering for JEE Advanced, candidates must meet all eligibility conditions set by the Joint Admission Board (JAB). Even one unmet condition can lead to cancellation of candidature — sometimes even after seat allotment.

You must rank within the top 2,50,000 in JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech). The 2,50,000 shortlisted candidates are distributed across categories as follows:

• You must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) in 2025 or be appearing in 2026.

• Compulsory subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics

• Minimum aggregate score: 75% for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS category candidates

• Minimum aggregate score: 65% for SC, ST, and PwD category candidates

3. Age Limit

• General, OBC-NCL, EWS: Born on or after October 1, 2001

• SC, ST, PwD: Born on or after October 1, 1996 (5-year relaxation applies)

4. Number of Attempts

You can appear for JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years. If you appeared in both JEE Advanced 2025 and JEE Advanced 2026, you are not eligible for JEE Advanced 2027 regardless of your score.

5. No Previous Admission at IITs

If you were admitted to any IIT through a previous JoSAA round — even provisionally — you are not eligible to appear again. The exception is if your earlier admission was cancelled because you withdrew before the last round of seat allotment in that year.

JEE Advanced 2026: Application Process

JEE Advanced 2026 registration was done entirely online at jeeadv.ac.in. The window was open from April 23 to May 7, 2026. The process followed five steps:

• Step 1 — Online Registration: Candidates registered using their JEE Main 2026 roll number, date of birth, and registered mobile number. A new JEE Advanced-specific login was created at this stage.

• Step 2 — Fill Application Form: Personal details, educational background, and category information were entered. PwD status, if applicable, had to be declared here. Most fields were locked after submission.

• Step 3 — Upload Documents: Scanned copies of Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets, a recent passport-size photograph, signature, and category certificate (if applicable) were uploaded in the prescribed format and file size limits.

• Step 4 — Pay Application Fee: The fee was paid online via credit card, debit card, or net banking. General and OBC-NCL candidates paid approximately ₹3,200; SC, ST, and PwD candidates paid approximately ₹1,600. The fee was non-refundable.

• Step 5 — Select Exam Centre Cities: Candidates chose up to three exam centre cities in order of preference. Final centre allocation was done by IIT Roorkee based on seat availability at each centre.

No offline registration mode was available. International candidates registered through their respective IIT zonal offices.

JEE Advanced 2026: Admit Card

IIT Roorkee released the JEE Advanced 2026 admit card on May 12, 2026 at jeeadv.ac.in. Candidates downloaded it by logging in with their registration number and date of birth. The admit card was a mandatory document to enter the exam hall — no candidate was permitted inside without it.

Since JEE Advanced 2026 was a CBT exam, candidates did not need to carry pens, pencils, or rough paper — all were provided at the centre. Electronic devices including mobile phones, smartwatches, and calculators were not permitted inside.

JEE Advanced 2026: Syllabus

JEE Advanced follows a defined syllabus prescribed by the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The syllabus broadly covers Class 11 and Class 12 Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, but at a conceptual depth significantly greater than JEE Main or board exams. Rote learning alone is not sufficient — JEE Advanced tests the ability to apply and connect concepts across topics.

JEE Advanced 2026: Answer Key

IIT Roorkee released the provisional answer key for JEE Advanced 2026 on May 25, 2026 at jeeadv.ac.in. Candidates could log in using their registration number and date of birth to view the official responses for both Paper 1 and Paper 2, and compare them against their own attempts to get an initial score estimate.

How to Challenge the Provisional Answer Key

The objection submission window was open from May 25 to May 26, 2026 at 5:00 PM. Candidates could challenge individual answers by paying a fee per question challenged. If IIT Roorkee accepted the objection, the fee was refunded; rejected challenges forfeited the amount. After reviewing all submitted objections, IIT Roorkee published the final answer key on June 1, 2026, alongside the result. No further objections are accepted after the final key is released — it is binding for all rank calculations.

Unofficial Answer Keys from Coaching Institutes

Coaching institutes including Allen, Aakash, Resonance, and Vedantu released unofficial answer keys within a few hours of the exam concluding. These are useful for a quick score estimate on exam day. However, always rely on the official IIT Roorkee key from jeeadv.ac.in for any formal calculation, and for filing objections.

Top IITs: Closing Ranks 2026

The closing rank is the highest (last) rank at which a seat was allotted in JoSAA Round 5 for a particular institute-branch-category combination. 2026 closing ranks are approximate and based on JoSAA 2026 Round 5 trend data. Final published closing ranks may vary slightly. All ranks are for the General (CRL) category, gender-neutral pool. Female category pool typically has higher closing ranks (more permissive) due to supernumerary seats.

For Electrical Engineering (EE), closing ranks at IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi are typically around AIR 300–450 and AIR 500–650 respectively. Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bombay typically closes around AIR 700–900. Branches like Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, and some interdisciplinary programmes at older IITs tend to have more accessible closing ranks, often in the AIR 4,000–8,000 range for General category candidates.

How to Prepare for JEE Advanced 2027

With JoSAA 2026 concluded, students who did not qualify JEE Advanced 2026 or did not get their preferred IIT seat now have roughly 10 months to prepare for JEE Advanced 2027. Whether this is your second attempt or you are a Class 12 student planning your first try, the core strategy is the same: deep concept clarity over surface-level coverage.

Start with Your 2026 Weak Areas

If you appeared for JEE Advanced 2026, your rank card shows subject-wise marks. Identify where the gap is largest — for most students who score below 200, the problem is concentrated in one or two subjects, not all three equally. Fix that weak subject first before spreading your time evenly. Spending equal time across Physics, Chemistry, and Math when you have one critical weak area is among the most common preparation mistakes.

Subject-wise Strategy for JEE Advanced 2027

• Mathematics: Calculus and Algebra carry the heaviest weightage in JEE Advanced Math. Focus on Integration (by parts, by substitution, definite integral properties), Differential Equations, Complex Numbers, and Probability. JEE Advanced Math rewards step-by-step reasoning — practice writing complete solutions, not just circling final answers.

• Physics: Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Optics form the majority of the Physics paper. Numerical value questions in Physics carry no negative marking — they are your safest route to marks. Make sure your Electrostatics and Current Electricity understanding is concept-based, not just formula-based.

• Chemistry: Organic reaction mechanisms are consistently high-yield in JEE Advanced. For Physical Chemistry, solve all previous-year problems on Electrochemistry, Thermodynamics, and Chemical Kinetics with complete working. For Inorganic Chemistry, maintain concise tabular notes rather than long paragraph notes — these are faster to revise before the exam.

Use Previous Year Papers (2010–2025)

Solving 10–15 years of JEE Advanced past papers is the highest-return activity available in your preparation. You will learn the question difficulty pattern, the concepts that repeat across years, and how to manage time across both papers. Always solve under strict timed conditions — 180 minutes per paper, no interruptions, no checking answers mid-paper.

Full Mock Tests from December 2026

Once the JEE Advanced 2027 notification is out (expected December 2026), shift to at least one full mock test per week. After every mock, spend twice as long on your wrong-answer review as you spent on the test itself. The pattern recognition you build from systematic mock analysis is what converts strong preparation into strong rank.

Qualify JEE Main 2027 First

You must rank in the top 2,50,000 in JEE Main 2027 to register for JEE Advanced 2027. JEE Main 2027 Session 1 is expected in January 2027. Since the syllabi overlap almost completely, your JEE Advanced preparation simultaneously strengthens your JEE Main score.
