NIFT 2027 Overview
The NIFT Entrance Examination (NIFTEE) is the gateway to India’s best-known fashion and design institute, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). Set up in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles and given statutory status by the NIFT Act, 2006, NIFT has 20 campuses across India. The entrance exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of NIFT for admission to undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes.
NIFT admission is a two-stage process. Stage 1 is a written exam — the General Ability Test (GAT) for all programmes and the Creative Ability Test (CAT) for design programmes. Shortlisted candidates then take a Situation Test (B.Des) or a Personal Interview (PG programmes) in Stage 2. Final merit combines both stages.
Status (as of 16 October 2026): NTA’s tentative examination calendar (public notice dated 16 September 2026) lists the NIFT Entrance Examination on 10 January 2027.
