MAT 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for MAT 2026 should meet the basic educational eligibility requirements prescribed by AIMA and their preferred business schools.
The general requirements are:
Educational qualification: A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university or an equivalent recognised qualification.
Final-year students: Students in the final year of an undergraduate degree can apply provisionally, subject to the applicable requirements.
Minimum graduation marks: AIMA does not prescribe one universal minimum percentage for all MAT candidates. Individual institutes may specify their own minimum marks and other conditions.
Age limit: AIMA's general MAT guidance does not specify an upper age limit.
Work experience: Work experience is not mandatory to appear for MAT, although particular programmes may have separate requirements.
Candidates should verify the admission criteria of the institutes to which they plan to apply because qualifying in MAT does not automatically guarantee admission.
MAT 2026 Exam Pattern
MAT 2026 consists of five sections, with 30 questions in each section. Candidates must answer a total of 150 questions within 120 minutes.
Section | Number of Questions |
|---|---|
Language Comprehension | 30 |
Intelligence and Critical Reasoning | 30 |
Mathematical Skills | 30 |
Data Analysis and Sufficiency | 30 |
Economic and Business Environment | 30 |
Total | 150 |
The examination follows a multiple-choice format. Each incorrect answer attracts a penalty of 0.25 marks. All five sections contribute to the MAT score, according to AIMA's published test structure.
MAT 2026 Registration Fees
Candidates must pay the applicable registration fee when selecting their examination mode.
Test Mode | Registration Fee |
|---|---|
Paper-Based Test (PBT) | ₹2,300 |
Computer-Based Test (CBT) | ₹2,300 |
Both PBT and CBT | ₹4,000 |
Candidates who register for both modes receive a fee concession compared with paying for each mode separately. They should check the official registration portal for current payment instructions and any applicable terms.
MAT 2026 Participating Colleges
MAT scores are accepted by more than 600 business schools across India, as stated by AIMA. Participating institutions may include management institutes, university departments and affiliated colleges.
The participating institute list can vary across examination administrations. Candidates should check whether their preferred MBA or PGDM programme accepts the relevant MAT score and review its admission requirements, tuition fees, selection criteria and placement information before applying.
MAT 2026 Admission Process
The general admission process involves the following steps:
Register for MAT 2026 and choose the preferred test mode.
Complete the application form and pay the registration fee.
Download the admit card and appear for the examination.
Check the MAT scorecard through the official website after results are declared.
Apply to participating business schools that accept MAT scores.
Complete any institute-specific selection stages, which may include a group discussion, personal interview, written assessment or other evaluation.
Confirm admission by satisfying the selected institute's eligibility and fee-payment requirements.
Each institute conducts its own admission process. Candidates should apply separately wherever required and follow the deadlines published by their chosen institutions.
Why Choose MAT 2026?
MAT offers multiple opportunities to take the examination during the year and allows candidates to select between paper-based and computer-based modes. Candidates who register for both modes may benefit from the combined registration fee.
Its acceptance across a broad network of business schools gives management aspirants additional options when planning applications for MBA and PGDM programmes. The score is valid for one year, subject to the admission policies and score-acceptance rules of the relevant institutions.
Candidates should compare institutes carefully rather than selecting a college solely on the basis of MAT score acceptance.
