Counselling and Admission Process
MAT 2026 Counselling and Admission Process
The Management Aptitude Test (MAT) 2026 is conducted by the All India Management Association (AIMA) for admission to MBA and allied management programmes offered by participating business schools across India. After the MAT result is declared, candidates can use their scores to apply to eligible institutes and complete their respective admission procedures.
MAT does not have a single centralised counselling process for all participating business schools. Each institute determines its own eligibility requirements, shortlisting criteria, selection stages and final admission decisions. Candidates must follow the instructions published by their preferred institutions.

Admission confirmation | Complete document verification and fee payment within the stated deadline |
Step 1: Check the MAT 2026 Result and Scorecard
The MAT December 2026 result is expected to be available by the first week of January 2027, according to AIMA's current schedule.
Candidates should log in to the official MAT applicant dashboard to access their scorecard. Review the score and percentile details and keep a copy for future admission requirements.
AIMA states that MAT scores are valid for one year. Candidates should confirm that their score is accepted for the intended admission cycle and programme before applying.
Step 2: Shortlist MAT Accepting Colleges
After checking the result, candidates should identify business schools that accept MAT scores for their preferred MBA or PGDM programmes.
AIMA maintains a participating B-school directory covering institutions across India. Candidates should compare colleges based on:
Programme eligibility and required MAT score or percentile, where specified
Course structure and available specialisations
Tuition fees and other educational expenses
Location, internships and industry exposure
Published placement reports and career opportunities
The number of participating institutes and accepted programmes may change across examination administrations. Candidates should verify score acceptance directly with the college before proceeding.
Step 3: Submit College Applications and Score Preferences
During MAT registration, candidates can select management institutes to receive their scores. Under AIMA's published registration instructions, candidates can select up to five institutes for one test mode. Candidates registering for both PBT and CBT can select up to seven institutes, including the additional choices available under the combined option.
Candidates should check whether their selected institutes also require a separate programme application, application fee or additional documents. Selecting an institute for score reporting does not necessarily complete every admission form required by that institution.
Check the institute's official admission notice carefully and submit all required information before its deadline.
Step 4: Institute-Wise Shortlisting
Each participating business school evaluates MAT applicants according to its own eligibility and selection criteria. Some institutes may specify a minimum MAT score or percentile for shortlisting, while others may consider additional academic or profile-related factors.
There is no single MAT cut-off applicable to every participating college.
Candidates should regularly check the official website and registered email address of their chosen institutes for shortlist announcements, interview invitations, deadlines and further instructions.
Step 5: Group Discussion, Personal Interview and Other Selection Rounds
Shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in additional assessment stages. The process differs by institution and programme.
Group Discussion (GD): Some institutions use this stage to assess communication, teamwork, reasoning and the ability to discuss a topic effectively.
Personal Interview (PI): Candidates may be asked about their academic background, career goals, work experience, interests and reasons for pursuing management education.
Written Assessment or Other Tests: Depending on the institution, candidates may also need to complete a written ability test, aptitude assessment, presentation or another selection activity.
Not every institute uses all these stages. Candidates must follow the selection process specified by the institution to which they have applied.
Step 6: MAT 2026 Merit List and Final Selection
After completing the required selection stages, each institute determines its final admission decisions. Depending on the institution, candidates may be informed through a merit list, admission offer, waitlist or individual communication.
The final decision may depend on the MAT score, academic record, performance in further selection rounds and any other criteria stated in the institute's admission policy.
Candidates should not rely solely on unofficial predicted cut-offs or assume that a qualifying MAT score guarantees admission.
Step 7: Document Verification and Seat Confirmation
Candidates who receive admission offers must complete the required formalities within the specified deadline.
These may include:
Providing graduation marksheets and degree certificates
Submitting identity and other required documents
Providing category or other eligibility certificates, where applicable
Paying the admission or programme fees
Completing the institute's enrolment and registration process
Candidates should read the admission offer carefully and retain payment receipts and official communications. Failure to satisfy eligibility conditions or meet deadlines may affect the admission offer.
