NMAT 2026 syllabus

The NMAT by GMAC 2026 syllabus covers three main areas: Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. These sections assess English language proficiency, numerical ability, data interpretation, analytical reasoning and critical thinking.

Candidates preparing for NMAT should understand the topics covered in each section and practise questions under timed conditions. A structured preparation plan can help improve accuracy, speed and familiarity with the examination format.

The syllabus below follows GMAC's published NMAT exam structure and 2026 preparation guidance. Individual question formats and difficulty levels may vary, and candidates should consult the official resources for the latest information.

Three sections

1. NMAT Language Skills Syllabus

The Language Skills section evaluates a candidate's understanding of written English, vocabulary, grammar and verbal relationships. Preparation should focus on reading comprehension, sentence construction and the ability to identify errors in written language.

Important Topics in Language Skills

Reading Comprehension: Understanding passages, identifying main ideas, drawing inferences, recognising the author's tone and interpreting information.

Para Forming: Arranging sentences into a logical sequence to create a coherent paragraph.

Error Identification: Identifying grammatical errors and incorrect sentence structures.

Prepositions: Understanding the appropriate use of prepositions in sentences and common grammatical constructions.

Sentence Completion: Selecting suitable words or expressions to complete a sentence logically and grammatically.

Analogies: Identifying relationships between words and selecting corresponding word pairs.

Additional Preparation Areas

Candidates should also practise vocabulary, parts of speech, subject-verb agreement, tenses, articles, conjunctions, sentence correction and contextual word usage. These topics support performance across grammar, sentence completion and reading-based questions.

How to Prepare for Language Skills

Read English passages regularly and practise answering questions without repeatedly referring to the text. Revise grammar rules and build vocabulary through consistent reading and revision.

Timed practice is especially important because the section contains 36 questions and has a 28-minute limit.

2. NMAT Quantitative Skills Syllabus

The Quantitative Skills section tests numerical reasoning, mathematical concepts, problem-solving ability and the interpretation of quantitative information.

Important Topics in Quantitative Skills

Number Properties

  • Fractions and decimals

  • Prime numbers

  • Factors and multiples

  • Highest common factor (HCF) and least common multiple (LCM)

  • Logarithms and related numerical concepts

Arithmetic

  • Percentages

  • Ratio and proportion

  • Averages

  • Profit and loss

  • Simple and compound interest

  • Time and work

  • Speed, time and distance

  • Basic numerical applications

Algebra

  • Linear and quadratic equations

  • Inequalities

  • Sequences and series

  • Algebraic expressions and equations

Probability and Permutations

  • Basic probability

  • Permutations and combinations

  • Counting principles

  • Related numerical problems

Data Interpretation

  • Tables

  • Graphs and charts

  • Data interpretation caselets

  • Comparison of numerical information

  • Percentage and ratio-based data analysis

Data Sufficiency

  • Evaluating whether the information provided is sufficient to answer a question

  • Analysing numerical statements

  • Selecting appropriate information for solving a problem

How to Prepare for Quantitative Skills

Begin with fundamental arithmetic and number properties before progressing to algebra, probability and data interpretation. Practise solving questions using efficient methods while checking calculations for accuracy.

Regularly solve timed sets involving tables, charts and caselets. Review mistakes to identify whether they arise from weak concepts, calculation errors or inefficient problem-solving.

Because this section has 36 questions and a 52-minute limit, candidates should practise deciding when to solve a question and when to move on.

3. NMAT Logical Reasoning Syllabus

The Logical Reasoning section assesses the ability to interpret information, identify relationships, evaluate arguments and reach valid conclusions.

Important Topics in Logical Reasoning

Critical Reasoning

  • Identifying assumptions

  • Drawing conclusions and inferences

  • Evaluating arguments

  • Strengthening and weakening arguments

  • Understanding logical relationships in statements

Deductions and Syllogisms

  • Drawing conclusions from given statements

  • Understanding logical conditions

  • Evaluating whether a conclusion follows from the information provided

Analytical Puzzles

  • Arrangements and grouping

  • Relationship-based puzzles

  • Multi-condition reasoning problems

  • Logical sequencing

Seating Arrangements

  • Linear arrangements

  • Circular arrangements

  • Relative positions and directions

  • Position-based deductions

Input-Output and Pattern-Based Reasoning

  • Identifying patterns

  • Understanding transformations and sequences

  • Applying rules to given information

Venn Diagrams and Decision-Making

  • Understanding overlapping categories

  • Interpreting relationships between groups

  • Making logical choices using stated conditions

Candidates should treat these as preparation topics rather than a guarantee that every topic will appear in every examination.

How to Prepare for Logical Reasoning

Practise a variety of reasoning problems and learn to translate conditions into structured information. For puzzles and arrangements, organise the information systematically before selecting an answer.

For critical reasoning, distinguish between facts, assumptions and conclusions. Review incorrect answers to understand why an inference is valid or invalid.

Timed practice can help candidates improve their decision-making and avoid spending too long on a single question.

NMAT 2026 Section-Wise Preparation Strategy

A balanced preparation plan should cover all three sections instead of focusing exclusively on a candidate's strongest area.

Section

Preparation Priority

Language Skills

Reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and sentence-based questions

Quantitative Skills

Arithmetic, algebra, number properties and data interpretation

Logical Reasoning

Critical reasoning, deductions, arrangements and analytical puzzles

Start by taking a diagnostic mock test to establish your current level. Next, divide preparation time between learning concepts, practising questions and reviewing mistakes. In the final stage, complete full-length mock tests using the actual sectional time limits.

Candidates should use the official NMAT preparation resources to become familiar with the question format and scoring system.

NMAT Preparation and MBA Admission Guidance from Eduspray India

Preparing for NMAT involves more than covering the syllabus. Students should also identify suitable MBA programmes, understand score-acceptance policies and plan their college applications.

Eduspray India can help students explore MBA admission options through personalised education counselling. Our guidance includes college shortlisting, programme comparisons, eligibility checks and support in understanding institution-specific admission procedures.

Students should compare colleges based on their preferred specialisation, academic profile, career objectives, location and budget. Admission requirements and selection decisions vary across institutions, and an NMAT score does not guarantee admission.
