Preparation
Full pagePreparing for SLAT 2027 requires a balanced strategy because the test consists of 60 questions from five mandatory sections, with 12 questions in each section. The exam is conducted for 60 minutes, and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
Understand the SLAT Exam Pattern First
Before beginning preparation, candidates should understand the weightage of each section:
Section | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
Logical Reasoning | 12 | 12 |
Legal Reasoning | 12 | 12 |
Analytical Reasoning | 12 | 12 |
Reading Comprehension | 12 | 12 |
General Knowledge | 12 | 12 |
Total | 60 | 60 |
Since every section carries equal weightage and all sections are mandatory, preparation should cover all five areas rather than focusing on only one or two sections.
Section-Wise SLAT Preparation Strategy
Logical Reasoning
Focus on developing your ability to identify relationships, patterns and logical conclusions. Regularly practise topics such as sequences, analogies, syllogisms, statements and conclusions, arrangements and logical puzzles.
Start with untimed practice to improve accuracy and gradually move to timed question sets.
Legal Reasoning
Legal Reasoning tests your ability to understand a given legal principle or situation and apply it logically. Focus on principle-based questions, legal concepts, rules and hypothetical situations.
Read each question carefully and identify the principle and relevant facts before selecting an answer.
Analytical Reasoning
This section requires structured problem-solving and logical analysis. Practise series, arrangements, deductions, data-based questions, patterns and other analytical problems.
Regular practice can help improve both accuracy and solving speed.
Reading Comprehension
Develop the habit of reading regularly from different subjects and writing styles. Practise passages followed by questions on main ideas, inference, author's viewpoint, vocabulary and conclusions.
Try to understand the passage as a whole instead of spending too much time on individual sentences.
General Knowledge
Keep yourself updated with current affairs and important national and international events. Along with current affairs, revise important areas of general knowledge, legal developments, awards, government initiatives, sports, science and major events.
Maintain short revision notes so that important information can be reviewed regularly.
Create a Daily Study Plan
A consistent study routine is more useful than studying only for long hours occasionally. Candidates can divide their daily preparation between concept building, question practice, reading and current-affairs revision.
A sample routine could include:
Activity | Suggested Time |
|---|---|
Logical/Analytical Reasoning | 45 minutes |
Legal Reasoning | 30 minutes |
Reading Comprehension | 30 minutes |
General Knowledge & Current Affairs | 30 minutes |
Practice Questions & Revision | 45 minutes |
The schedule can be adjusted according to individual strengths, weaknesses and available preparation time.
Practise Mock Tests
Mock tests are an important part of SLAT preparation. Since the actual test has 60 questions to be attempted in 60 minutes, candidates should regularly practise under timed conditions.
After every mock test, analyse:
Questions answered incorrectly → Questions left unanswered → Time spent → Difficult topics → Repeated mistakes
Mock-test analysis helps identify areas that need additional practice rather than simply increasing the number of tests taken.
Use a 90-Day Preparation Plan
Days 1–30: Build Fundamentals
Understand the syllabus, learn the basic concepts of each section and begin topic-wise practice. Give special attention to areas where your accuracy is low.
Days 31–60: Increase Practice
Start solving timed sectional tests and mixed question sets. Continue reading comprehension practice and maintain regular current-affairs revision.
Days 61–90: Mocks & Revision
Shift the focus towards full-length mock tests, revision, time management and error analysis. Avoid continuously adding new topics and concentrate on strengthening areas that remain weak. The official SLAT website also recommends structured preparation with regular practice and mock-test analysis.
Last-Minute Preparation Tips
During the final stage of preparation, revise important concepts and current affairs regularly. Practise complete papers within the 60-minute limit and review mistakes after every test.
Since SLAT 2027 has no negative marking, candidates should make effective use of the available time and ensure that they do not unnecessarily leave questions unanswered.
Candidates can also appear for SLAT on both December 19 and December 26, 2026, with the higher score considered for the final percentile calculation when both tests are attempted.
Preparation Support
Students who are unsure about their law-school options can also take guidance on course selection, college options, application procedures and the admission process. Counselling support can help students understand their options after the entrance examination and plan the next admission steps.
