What Is UCEED?

UCEED is an entrance examination designed to assess the aptitude and creative thinking skills required for undergraduate design education. It is conducted by IIT Bombay, and UCEED scores are used for admission to B.Des. programmes at participating institutes under the applicable admission rules.

The examination assesses a candidate's ability to interpret visual information, recognise patterns, reason logically, understand spatial relationships and demonstrate design-oriented thinking.

Unlike examinations that primarily test subject knowledge, UCEED evaluates a combination of analytical reasoning, visual understanding, creativity and drawing or design skills. Candidates should therefore prepare for both the computer-based portion and the drawing-based component of the examination.

UCEED 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must satisfy the official requirements for appearing in UCEED 2027. The principal eligibility conditions include an age criterion, a limit on the number of attempts and the permitted Class XII examination year.

Under the published UCEED 2027 rules:

  • Candidates in the OPEN, EWS and OBC-NCL categories must have been born on or after 1 October 2002.

  • Candidates in the SC, ST and PwD categories must have been born on or after 1 October 1997.

  • Candidates can attempt UCEED a maximum of two times, in consecutive years.

  • Candidates must have appeared for their Class XII or equivalent examination for the first time in 2026 or 2027, subject to the specific board-result exception stated in the official rules.

  • Students from Science, Commerce, and Arts and Humanities streams are eligible to appear for the examination if they satisfy the other criteria.

Eligibility to appear for UCEED and eligibility for admission to a particular B.Des. programme are different. Participating institutes may specify different subject requirements for admission. Candidates must therefore check the separate admission eligibility criteria of their preferred institutes.

UCEED 2027 Exam Pattern and Syllabus

UCEED 2027 consists of one question paper lasting three hours, with a total of 300 marks. The paper has two compulsory parts.

Part A is a computer-based test assessing numerical, analytical and visual-reasoning skills. It includes Numerical Answer Type (NAT), Multiple Select Question (MSQ) and Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) sections.

Part B evaluates drawing skills and design aptitude. It contains two questions, and candidates must complete their responses in the answer booklet provided at the examination centre.

The syllabus covers visualisation and spatial reasoning, practical and scientific knowledge, observation and design sensitivity, environmental and social awareness, analytical and logical reasoning, language and creativity, drawing and design aptitude.

Candidates should consult the official syllabus and exam-pattern pages for the detailed topic list, marking scheme and question structure.

UCEED Participating Colleges

UCEED 2027 scores are used for B.Des. admissions at the following seven participating institutes:

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi)

New Delhi

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati)

Candidates should confirm the specific B.Des. programme, seat availability and admission eligibility at each institute before applying. Qualifying UCEED does not automatically guarantee admission.

Courses Available Through UCEED

UCEED is primarily associated with admission to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) degree at participating institutes.

The B.Des. programme focuses on design education and may include areas such as industrial design, product design, interaction design, communication design and related disciplines, depending on the institute's curriculum and available specialisations.

Candidates should review each institute's official programme information rather than assuming that every design specialisation is offered at all participating colleges.

UCEED 2027 Registration and Admission Process

Candidates must register through the official UCEED website and satisfy the examination eligibility criteria. After registration, they should download their admit card, appear for the examination, check the answer-key announcements and review their result.

Candidates who qualify must then complete the separate B.Des. application and seat-allocation process according to the official admission schedule and rules. Admission depends on the candidate's rank, institute-specific eligibility, seat availability and the applicable allocation rules.

The examination registration and the subsequent B.Des. admission application are separate steps. Candidates should track both deadlines carefully.

UCEED 2027 Result and Scorecard

UCEED 2027 results are scheduled to be declared on 6 March 2027. The official website states that scorecard downloads will begin on 10 March 2027.

Candidates will need their examination login credentials to access their results and download their scorecards. A qualifying rank does not guarantee admission; candidates must also fulfil the participating institute's eligibility conditions and complete the B.Des. admission process.

UCEED 2027 Preparation Tips

Candidates should familiarise themselves with the structure of Part A and Part B before beginning intensive preparation. Regular practice with visual puzzles, spatial reasoning, analytical questions, observation exercises and design problems can help improve performance.

For Part B, practise sketching, communicating ideas visually, understanding proportions and responding to design situations. Use previous-year question papers and the official syllabus to identify recurring question types and develop an effective preparation plan.

Candidates should also practise under timed conditions to improve speed, accuracy and the ability to express design ideas within the available time.
